Training for Teachers

Maryland Justice Training Institute

Teachers will enjoy a wide array of sessions in this "Training of Trainers" style-workshop with Maryland Judges and legislators, as well as interactive simulations, mock hearings, and group discussions. Over the course of the three-day Institute, they will receive an abundance of materials to take back to their schools, increased knowledge and understanding about the judicial and legislative system, and contacts with colleagues and legal professionals around the state of Maryland.

In addition to visiting trial and appellate courts, participating in forums with appellate court judges, and preparing for mock oral arguments, teachers will attend sessions that overview: The Maryland Judicial System; Congress and its role in government; Law-related lessons and innovative activities appropriate for middle or high school levels; Current issues in, and confronting the Courts; and Citizenship and civic responsibility.

Participating teachers will be requested to conduct training in their home districts for 100 students or 10 teachers based upon materials and knowledge gained from the Institute. Upon completion of this training, teachers receive MJTI Fellow status.
