Law Links Summer Internship Program
Mission
- To create summer employment for public high school students in law firms and law-related agencies
- To provide students with an opportunity to learn more about the professional world, the legal system, law office operations and personal interaction through their work experience, law-related activities and the Law & Leadership Institute
- To assist interns in reaching their post high school goals and to encourage higher education as part of those goals
Overview
Law Links interns work for seven weeks during the summer, beginning in June and ending in August. Participating law firms and agencies may choose to extend their intern's employment if mutually agreed upon by the student and employer.
Currently, Law Links is offered in Baltimore City , and Prince George ’s, Somerset , Wicomico and Worcester Counties . If you wish to participate in Law Links and you attend a public school in one of these jurisdictions, please read our Eligibility Guidelines.
Please note: The ability of CLREP to implement the Law Links Internship each year depends on ample funding.
Eligibility
You should apply for the Law Links Student Internship Program, if…
- You are a student who attends a public high school in Baltimore City, Prince George's County, Somerset County, Wicomico County or Worcester County, and
- You are a rising junior or senior (meaning you will be entering your junior or senior year), and
- You have an interest in working full-time, in a paid, legal internship for eight weeks during your summer vacation, and
- You have, at a minimum, a cumulative "C+" grade point average. (If you do not have a C+ average, include a summary along with your transcript, explaining how you believe this internship will assist you in raising your GPA), and
- You have good school attendance, and
- You have NO other events (i.e. family vacations, sports programs, academic programs) that will conflict with the internship.
Your completed application package will include:
- The completed application itself, and
- 3 letters of recommendation (from anyone other than family members), and
- Your school transcript that includes grades from the current academic year, and
- Your school attendance record, and
- A letter of interest not to exceed one page in length.
Helpful Hints:
- Begin the application process as soon as possible. Do not put everything off until the last minute. It takes time for your school to process a request for transcripts and school attendance records. It also takes time to write recommendation letters.
- Do not wait to write your personal essay.
- Send the application at least several days before the postmark deadline, to avoid last-minute crises!
